You are analyzing the stories from a multitude of angles and I know you are able to work with individuals in skill building. Conferencing with your students is powerful and validates their work as writers. It isn’t easy for all of them to “write” but even they must see their own growth. Remind them that they are building a bank of skills to fall back on every time they are given a new writing task in any subject.
I like to remind my kindergarten kids that we are still learning and they should be proud of their work whenever they try their best. It’s a process. I wonder, do you have any writing from your youth? Care to share it?
