I teach test taking as a genre and try to spend only a precious few classes in that swamp. I do think it helps the kids frame their thinking a bit to practice, but we talk quite a bit about how artificial it is to not be able to discuss ideas together and share our thinking. This is part of what good readers and writers in a community do, etc…
