Wonder Poem: Sunrise Sunset (mirror poem)

Today’s Wonder of the World poem is about “sunrise” and I was tinkering around with the idea of playing with text, and decided to write a Sunrise/Sunset poem with one poem mirroring the other. It’s sort like a virtual foldable poem.

We bathe in the hint of light,

just above the treeline,

knowing that when we close our eyes

to the silence of the fading night,

this moment will disappear almost as quickly as it arrived

as yet another day breaks into the start of

a new poem.

I did a version at Notegraphy but I don’t like how it looks when I converted it into an image file (which is how I often share it here, as an embeddable file).

Peace (along the folds),

  1. Ironic that I slept in on the morning of the sunrise poems!

LOVE the way morning is a mirror image of night.

How did you reflect the text?

  2. Holy cow! Do you ever quit??? Every day I am amazed at how you not only have time to write a poem (and often two or three or more on other sites) but also to figure out a creative way to publish it. After the poetry challenge is over, I really, really want to try some of the new tools you’ve exposed us to! Thanks so much!

And like Mary Lee, I love how the sunrise poem perfectly mirrors the sunset poem. This would be cool on a poster with one of those reflective photographs, where mountains or trees or whatever are mirrored in a lake.

  3. Kevin, I also love the echo / mirror of the sunrise / sunset lines like
to the silence of the fading night
    mirrored to
to the quiet of the fading sky

It shows the ebb and flow of our lives.

Once while writing a poem, I discovered I could almost read it in rows and columns, so I revised it to do so:

A Poem in Columns and Rows

  4. Tell me you do have days when the muse refuses. I am having one of those today as I try to write a Rondeau. Why do we get ourselves into these things?
I love the way you worked with the image of the poem along with the words. The image reflecting the meaning.
