(I am participating in the March Slice of Life challenge via the Two Writing Teachers site. Slice of Life is the idea of noticing the small moments. I have been a participant for many years and each year, I wonder if I will have the energy to write every day. This year, I am going to try to coincide it with my daily poetry writing, and intend to compose small poems on small moments. We’ll see how it goes …)
Day Three
Figures prone, as if
exhibits in a museum,
a gathering of stories
and words in handwith not a breath of voice;
each mind’s alive
with what’s unfolding
inside the bound textsIf you could listen,
the inner working
might reveal cacophony,
a multitudebut here, in the classroom,
through this window,
it’s a comfortable quiet,
a sustained silence
Peace (books have it),
Kevin
I love how you’re approaching SOL 2020, Kevin. There were a lot of posts about reading yesterday, but yours is unique. Cacophany is SUCH a great word.
Thanks … I guess reading is a key theme for a bunch of teachers ..
Kevin
Wow! The words of a true artist here. Love the juxtaposition of surprising words working together here.
Kevin, the ending of your poem is strong with a contrasting image from the previous stanza. Yesterday, I was discussing the initiative to lead each child to be a lifelong reader. Sustained silence has beautiful flow, the image it provides is joyful.”Peace, books have it.-YES!)
Aaaah, I can almost slide right into the room- so wonderful!
If you could listen..the inner workings. 💕
