(I am participating in the March Slice of Life challenge via the Two Writing Teachers site. Slice of Life is the idea of noticing the small moments. I have been a participant for many years and each year, I wonder if I will have the energy to write every day. This year, I am going to try to coincide it with my daily poetry writing, and intend to compose small poems on small moments. We’ll see how it goes …)
Day Eight
Plant this lost hour
deep into the ground,
like a flower of hope
and bloomThe clockmaker remembers
only days of dark
and lightThe poet forgets
the words discovered,
then writesThe father ponders
the moments, the child
now grown, goneThe teacher reaches
forever forward, faith
beyondWe’re in this yawning room,
pining, in mourning,
for the afternoon
Peace (moving forward),
Kevin
Just so lovely to read. I keep reading it over, trying to learn something about the way you use new lines and stanzas. Really well crafted.
That you spent time reading it more than once gives me pleasure … thank you, Catherine … much appreciated
Perfect, Kevin! There’s such a wonderful amalgam of feeling and emotion, happy and sad, with respect to the time change. I love the gloriously light early evening, yet am not looking forward to rising in the dark tomorrow. Time marches on. You’ve captured it all. — Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/
We don’t always look forward to this Spring Ahead time change. But you’re right…we should plant it with hope. I love that line! Spring should be about hope.
This poem touched the bittersweet feeling of the day and perhaps a stage of life. I loved it.
I always love to read your poems each slicing year. It’s taken me awhile to track you down in the long list of comments. This one is my favorite so far – so many bits that I love: that a teacher reaches forward in faith, poet forgets and then writes, and the play on words with “mourning” for afternoon
Thank you so much, for the comment but also for the fact that you went looking for me in the comment strands … that means a lot ..
