Slice of Life/Day in a Sentence: Poem Remix Tricks

(The Slice of Life Challenge in March is hosted by Two Writing Teachers as way to encourage teachers-as-writers. You can join in, if you want. There is also a monthly call for Slices on Tuesdays. You can write then, too)

A connected friend’s response inspires me, so I take it further, sprinkling in some photographic tricks to create a new visual poetic remix.

Remix for Terry

  1. Whoa. I forget how creatively you come at this, Kevin. I love the sentences, and I also love the remixes, and now the visual! And then there are the words and the message. “The expiration of our in and out, in and out” is a line to keep and use again. It’s beautiful.

  2. That is amazing in so many ways! I have been using visuals more in the pandemic – makes virtual more engaging. This is such a great way for kids to revise their writing – meaning, craft and structure. I don’t even know where to begin. Thank you for always pushing me to think more creatively. Your student are so lucky to have you.

  3. The visual caused me to do a triple take. Making judgments about where to start reading caused me to slow down and take in each word. The sum of this piece is greater than the parts; I really appreciate what you have done here.
