Slice of Life/Day in a Sentence: The Books They Choose

(The Slice of Life Challenge in March is hosted by Two Writing Teachers as way to encourage teachers-as-writers. You can join in, if you want. There is also a monthly call for Slices on Tuesdays. You can write then, too)

I do love it so very much when I get a chance to see the choices my students make for the books they want to be, and are, reading.

Peace (in pages),
Kevin

  1. There’s a LOT of reading to be done in this one-sentence post!

I LOVE PADLET! There are so many, many ways to use it. Thanks for sharing reading lives on it!

  2. Just so many greats here in this collection – fills my heart with joy that the students are reading and sharing. Also takes me back to the libraries of my childhood… that same prickling feeling of the magic waiting to happen, right at my fingertips.

  3. You had me at “books they are reading”. I love this use of padlet, may have to steal the idea for my fourth and fifth graders! I see quite a few of my favorites in there, too. This librarian is loving the student agency in this post.

  4. Seeing what kids are reading and talking to them about their choice reading is one of the things I miss about teaching.

  5. I was mesmerized by this visual and lingered to see what their book choices were as well. So much fantasy! I read a few good fantasy books over the summer that I would love to recommend to your students. 🙂

  6. Is this padlet? I started using it too for responses to our novel study questions. So cool. Looks like you’ve got some really good readers! Awesome
