Slice of Life/Day in a Sentence: One Year Ago Today

(The Slice of Life Challenge in March is hosted by Two Writing Teachers as way to encourage teachers-as-writers. You can join in, if you want. There is also a monthly call for Slices on Tuesdays. You can write then, too)

It was exactly one year ago, today, when we walked out of the classroom on a Friday afternoon (the 13th) and never returned to the building for rest of the school year.

Peace (thinking on a year),
Kevin

    • In class yesterday, we talked (thanks to a piece we read in Time for Kids) about how Museums are asking for materials of daily life from all of us, and I shared that song in my post with them, which I wrote at the end of March last year for my students, and school families, and my own family and friends … and now that song is part of a local museum’s digital archive, too. Hard to think we will forget …

  1. To Terje: I can NOT imagine EVER forgetting this date.

Kevin: I hope that you are teaching grammar throughout this month and teaching students all that you can tuck into a sentence because I think your sentences are brilliant.

  2. I am amazed at your ability to say so much with so few
Words. This chatterer needs to learn from you!
And yes – March 13 will never be the same again

  3. For me the Friday the 13th date makes it easy to remember for now, and I think makes it memorable for the long term. I’ve read lots of remembrances from a year ago in the last couple of days in a variety to places! I know I will not forget March 13, 2020, the beginning of a very different kind of teaching and learning environment!
