(This is for the Slice of Life challenge, hosted by Two Writing Teachers. We write on Tuesdays about the small moments in the larger perspective and then all through March — every single day … You write, too.)
Her eyes drift up,
a dog’s curiosity piqued
by shadows in the tree,
where a huge red-tailed hawk,
talons clutching winter branch,
gazes down with hunter’s eyes,
uninterested in the attentions
of neither her nor me
Peace (in the noticing),
Kevin
There you are! I am right there in the moment with you. Eyes up admiring that hawk against the sky.
Love those hunter’s eyes!
I love the triangle in this small moment of you, the dog, and the hawk, and the awareness of where each side is focused–you on the dog, the dog on the hawk, the hawk on the hunt. It’s like a movie-storyboard in each line!
Such vivid description in such few words!
I love how I can vividly picture this moment! It makes me curious what he WAS looking at after all!
