(This is for the Slice of Life challenge, hosted by Two Writing Teachers. We write on Tuesdays about the small moments in the larger perspective and then all through March — every single day … You write, too.)
A week-old icicle hangs
with impatience
off the roof near
the front door,
sipping off a drink
from gravity’s pour;
it’s a slow-moving
race that ends
at the floor
Peace (watching in wonder),
Kevin
I like the seemingly random placement of the rhyming lines in this poem, as well as the personification. My favorite lines: “sipping off a drink from gravity’s pour”. In my mind’s eye, I could see weak summer sunlight glinting through the melting icicle.
Thanks for such close reading, and lovely comment!
This is an observation I love. I could sit and watch a scene like this through a whole cup of coffee without any interruption (as long as there were no interruptions). It is a peaceful calm to watch something so repetitive in nature.
From one who lives in a place without snow and ice, this is a vivid description that leaves me wanting a photograph! Love both the line about gravity’s pour and the slow-moving race. Thanks for the mind image!
