Slice of Life/Day in a Poem (Day 17): Oak Tree Respite

(This is for the Slice of Life challenge, hosted by Two Writing Teachers. We write on Tuesdays about the small moments in the larger perspective and then all through March — every single day  …  You write, too.)

Half in shadow –
half in light,
the black oak tree
bends forward as if
to hold back
the coming night,
as we sit at its roots:
restful, solemn, quiet

Peace (in the moment),
Kevin

  1. Such a peaceful calming poem. I had to search for black oaks as well so I could fully envision and was delighted to learn that there are black oaks where I live too, so now I will be on the lookout.

  2. So lovely. I really read into that last line “(in the moment)” curious what came before this calm and quiet, or was was to come after.
