As we move towards Write Out 2024 (“Poetry For The Planet” is the theme), a series of posts are encouraging us to write our own poems. The latest uses Lucille Clifton’s The Earth Is A Living Thing as mentor text for a metaphor poem. I used the idea of a puddle.

I’ve been enjoying the five prompts in August for Open Write over at Ethical ELA. Here are the pieces I wrote. Format/genres included a Lune poem, a TIME acronym poem of appreciation, a travel poem, a Dadaist poem and a clunker.

This morning’s creative flow started with the leaf poem (above) based on a prompt off Mastodon with the word “dance” and then continued into a prompt for DS106 Daily Create about inventing something — so I remixed a project off Glitch to create a music-themed Idea Generator.

I submitted the prompt for this morning’s DS106 Daily Create, about exploring a visual search engine of Public Domain artwork. I created the art image above, which I like for its textural oddness, by first searching for “trombone” (believe it or not) in the search site (called Public Domain), and discovering a strange image of a person in motion, which led to me further to a whole collection of people in motion. I did a screenshot and then used LunaPic for some filtering effects.
